“It is not what you are right now that is most important, but what God wants you to be and what you can be with faith.” Bishop Dick Wills, retired Bishop of the UMC
God’s love for you and for His Church is far greater than anyone can find on this planet. It is through that lens of infinite love that He sees, right now, at this very moment, what He wants you to be and what you are supposed to be doing with the life that He has given to you in Christ Jesus. Now for those of us who are over 70, we may have the tendency to respond to this understanding that we are now retired. We may want to say that we have done our work in God’s Kingdom, and it is time for the younger people to take over.
Here's the truth from God’s heart to yours and mine. He does not offer a retirement plan here on earth for what He seeks to do in us and through us into the world. He is always seeking those, regardless of their age and station in life, who are willing to surrender their lives to Him and become a new creation; one where we seek to be in mission and ministry to the whole world.
This Sunday in worship we will begin to look closely at the life of Nehemiah and learn more about what God wants us to be and what we can be and what we can do with faith. Our scripture focus will be on Nehemiah 1:1-4.
