When the Church Comes Alive!
In every church I served as pastor I talked with inactive members on what led to their inactivity. Invariably I have received the following response, perhaps with somewhat different words but with the same understanding. “I believe I can be just as good a Chirstian outside the church as I can be in it.” Sadly, surveys have shown that the number of inactive members in the church here in North America and in Europe are increasing and the reasons that are given are many, yet each has as it’s root thought, “I have found the church to be more of a detriment than a help in my relationship with God.” I wonder how many Christians have acted on that same understanding and left the church only to find that what they needed most in life could only be found in what they have left
This coming Sunday in worship we will explore in more detail the reasons people give for leaving the church. Our main focus will be on the difference between “live” churches and churches that are dying and how church members respond when the church they attend is considered to be an “alive” church. Our scripture focus will be on Acts 2:42-47. I look forward to being with you this Sunday in worship as we celebrate “Fellowship Sunday.
